Television tower
Our next reforestation project is in the immediate vicinity of the Bielefeld TV tower.
If you hike up the Fernsehturmstraße to the TV tower, you will find ancient stone quarries along the hiking route. In the past, the so-called Osningstein was broken here, with which many basement floors of historical buildings in Bielefeld were created. The Fernsehturmstraße runs on the hill parallel to the Hermannsweg and delimits the reforestation area. In the immediate vicinity of the television tower you will find a Germanic ring wall that closes off the area on the eastern side.
The area to be reforested is traversed by a beautiful, serpentine-like hiking trail to the south.
The bedrock is the Osningsandstein, which essentially has a nutrient-poor sand overlay. We are on the southern slope of the Teutoburg Forest.
The area reference data:
The area to be reforested has an area size of approx. 1.5 ha.
Due to the extreme drought of the last few years, the pre-existing stock was completely destroyed by the large calamity of bark beetles.
In this area we can currently find relatively few naturally rejuvenated plants, but in the event of reforestation, the diversity of tree species will be increased by the introduction of seeds from neighboring areas.
On these very steep south-facing slopes with almost all-day sunshine and the low rainfall in the year, there is now the chance to create a climate-stable mixed deciduous forest that is suitable for the location. In the future, this will be the habitat of many different insects and animals. The wild fruit varieties in particular will contribute to a beautiful landscape.
For reforestation it is therefore suggested on this site:
Planting bandage 2.2 mx 1.2 m
Total number of plants on 1.5 ha = 5,100 plants, which are distributed as follows:
70 pieces of wild pear as border planting to the Hermannsweg and the hiking trail
70 pieces of wild apple as border planting to the Hermannsweg and the hiking trail
496 winter linden trees
496 pieces of black cherries
3968 pieces of sessile oak
Since we need smaller plants for the shallow slopes, the prices have been reduced accordingly!
